Info about the Zombodze Sports and Recreation Center
In Zombodze the youth are very much in need of recreational outlets. The HIV/AIDS prevalence among Swazi youth one of the highest in the world. This HIV/AIDs rate, compounded with a host of other social ills has led to the evolution of the Zombodze Youth Organization for focusing on improving life for the young people in the community. The ZYO, in conjunction with other local organizations wishes to build a safe and fun sports and recreation center for the community. The objectives are to provide local youth exercise, healthy living, and self-confidence building opportunities through a host of activities to be made available through the Center. The vision for the center is to include a track, soccer field, basketball court, netball and volleyball courts. Bleachers and a picnic area will also be included to offer the entire community a gathering point for positive family outings. The Center can also occasionally double as a community gathering point for other community based activities, among them HIV/AIDS prevention programs. While the community is providing the majority of the funding needed for the Center, additional help has been requested from Peacecorps Partnership for provision of much of the equipment for the basketball court, as well as other materials related to construction of the courts, track and playing fields..
