Info about the Summer Sports Festival

At a small Children's Education Center in Kyrgyzstan, students and their teachers hope to begin a Spring/Summer Outdoor Game Series to promote the exchange of American and Kyrgyz games, encourage physical fitness amongst local children, and foster good sportsmanship between boys and girls. The American games that will be taught and played are Kickball, Dodge ball, and Frisbee. The students will also play a variety of Kyrgyz National games, which participating Peace Corps volunteers will learn.

The game series will be held at a local park, where there is plenty of room to play. Being able to use this public space free of charge is invaluable and contributes considerably to the project. The games will take place once a week, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when children have off from school. Students will be divided into teams lead by a PCV living in the area and will provide their own team jerseys in various colors.

From the Partnership Program, we are requesting funding for a few essential items which the school community cannot afford to provide, including sports equipment such as balls, mats, and field chalk for boundaries. These materials will help us execute our games, help us play them properly, and help us attain our project goals.
