The school is not only a resource for the village youth, but also provides a space for community meetings and cultural events. The PTA highly respects the school, but is disappointed at the lack of sufficient space for the students to play, hold concerts or other youth events. The faculty would like to provide a safe space for future physical education classes, sport teams and social or cultural events for the youth of the village.<br /> <br /> For the past ten years the school has been trying to find funds to build a basketball court. Through the use of the court, youth will learn the essential lessons of teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership. Faculty and parents believe this project will help provide long term alternatives to gang violence and delinquency, which are prevalent in El Salvador.<br /> <br /> The overall cost for the construction of the multipurpose basketball court is $14,596.03 This includes materials, transportation, architect and labor costs. The school and the community hope to raise $10,587.21 with the Peace Corps Partnership Program to cover the cost of materials. The community and local town hall will cover the remaining costs of tools and labor. With Partnership assistance, the youth and community of this village will make a community dream come true.
