Children in grades 1-12 must make due with a dirt and grass field when weather permits and move to a cramped room in the school's basement when inclement weather—or mud—render the field unusable. The PE teacher has managed admirably despite the lack of facilities, but has ultimately been limited in his abilities to conduct a full PE and extra-curricular sports program. Plans to construct a sports and festivities hall, as part of a larger school annex project, have been sidetracked for budget reasons for many years, and the village remains without a serviceable court for basketball and volleyball.<br /> <br /> While there is still hope that money will eventually be provided to fund the annex project, community leaders and a group of motivated students from the school's Active Citizens club carried out a needs assessment in the village and identified the lack of sports facilities as among the community's most pressing problems. Through the construction of a small sports complex, consisting of a tiled basketball and volleyball court, gymnastics equipment, a small running track and grass mini-soccer field, we hope to provide the students and community members with a long-awaited facility that will be at the center of an expanded PE and extracurricular sports program to inspire children of all ages to spend their free-time being physically active.<br /> <br /> Note: This summary was provided by a Peace Corps Volunteer and the community administering this project.</div>
