San Diego Peace Corps Association is a nonprofit organization that brings together Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) in our community to promote peace and understanding. The mission of SDPCA is:

   * To build and maintain an active membership of RPCVs, their families and friends
   * To support and inform RPCVs and local communities through social, educational and community service activities.
   * To provide funding for Peace Corps Volunteers’ projects overseas
   * To influence the direction of Peace Corps through advocacy.

SDPCA was first organized in March, 1988. In addition to forming a steering committee and a by-laws committee, the group organized its first project - participating in a Walk for Mankind, sponsored by Project Concern International. That first project raised $65 for the SDPCA, and so began the association. The group completed its by-laws, filed them with the state, elected officers, and was an official non-profit organization by June.

Since its inception, the SDPCA have held many social events, educational activities, and community projects, including hosting the 1997 National Peace Corps Association bi-annual conference. Of the over 130 affiliated groups of the NPCA, the SDPCA has frequently been honored for the quality of the newsletter design and content.
