Info about the San Andres Educational Resource Center
San Andres is a small community in rural Bolivia where the pastoral lifestyle is a point of pride for its residents. While proud, they are at the same time conscious of the drawbacks accompanying their way of life. A major concern in recent years has been a lack of educational materials and information.
Through discussion and analysis, the community decided that establishing a resource center, with a library and computer lab, woul dbe the most effective way of addressing the problem. The center will serve as a vital educational resource for the 562 students that attend the San Andres K-12 public school.
The School Director has designed a staff training program, led by the local librarian and the Peace Corps Volunteer, to help the teachers and students learn to fully utilize and maintain the resource center.
Partnership funds will be used to purchase books, including reference materials, furniture, computers, electronic equipment, and learning materials. The community will be contributing construction materials and labor and educational materials.
