Half of Catio is populated by the Balanta ethnic group and the other half is Fula. I lived in the Fula section near a small store that sold a variety of things including cigarettes, matches, blue soap, Danish corned beef, and bolashas (cookies). I'd visit my "dad" who ran the store almost daily and almost as often I'd sit on the porch of the store with my French-speaking friend from Guinea-Conokry and drink warga (tea) for hours!
