Info about the Resource Center

With your help, the Resource Center will provide a town (pop. 10,000) in Ukraine with an exciting new venue. Students of four local schools will be able to watch films and raise money for any necessary materials or repairs in their schools. They will also plan English Club meetings every two weeks, using the center’s authentic resources to create new themes each month. Teachers will meet here twice a month to discuss effective teaching methods and to practice their English. The first goal of these meetings will be the creation of an English Learning Profile (ELP) system. The ELP is a portfolio that will keep a record of each student’s learning personality and his or her weekly accomplishments. With the ELP, students will be able to chart their progress clearly and logically, developing important study skills that they can take with them as they prepare to enter higher institutions. Using ELP, teachers will have a clearer understanding of how to best utilize resources to suit each student. Your contribution will ensure that teachers have the appropriate materials for making their students more competitive.

The community has promised to contribute $1,798 toward the completion of the center. Teachers have donated 100 books (textbooks, grammar handbooks, etc.). Partnership money will be used to purchase additional textbooks, grammar workbooks, activity books, a copying machine/printer/scanner combination, a projector and a projector screen, an announcement board, a bookshelf, novels, and a laptop computer (to be used in English Club and region-wide teachers’ meetings).
