For the past three years, as graduate students, two RPCVs, Will Dickinson and Mike Sheppard, have funded the development of "Peacecorpsjournals" and "Peacecorpswiki" on a shoestring. The work on these sites is the result of thousands of hours and dollars spent by the two RPCVs to create and maintain an online resource that the PC community, especially in-service volunteers overseas, has adopted and uses regularly. Last year Mike and Will registered as a non-profit corporation called "Developmentary, Inc." to bring the projects under a corporate entity. Early this year they applied for 501(c)3 status with IRS. The application with IRS has been a long process and is still pending which causes difficulty for Will and Mike to apply for grants or institutional donor funding.
From the beginning, these projects have been a completely independent and no aspect of them has received incubation or funding from any public, private or governmental institutions. Until recently the hosting of the sites was donated by a fellow graduate student. However, the student donor was unable to provide the hosting speed and size demanded by the site's growth in users (now 2,000 unique visitors a day).
Recently an emergency switch to a different server was necessary to handle the load and by the end of the month the project needs $1,000 to pay for the $500 change over and $500 server reservation fee or they will no longer be able to continue the web sites and support the Peace Corps community in their current form. The monthly costs are $150 which we hope to fund for 6 months by which time we expect to have the IRS determination letter and we become eligible for grant and institutional donor funding.
Please help us with a donation, Thank YOU!
