Palmar is a small fishing village along la Ruta del Sol (the Route of the Sun) in the province of Santa Elena. It has had three volunteers from the Youth and Families program, though many of them have worked in community health as well. Palmar is known for the Catholic Sanctuary on its hill and there is a strong Catholic influence in the town. Their youth group Neojuventud is especially strong and has opened a panadería (bakery) and cabaña (cabin).
