Info about the Nursery and Reforestation Initiative
“Lentama” is the name of a women’s group in the village of Diama, which lies in the Zabre district, 180 km south-southeast of Ouagadougou. The mission of the group is to improve the well being of the people of Diama through better health, general education, and heightened economic activity. One of the primary projects of this group is a nursery with a garden and well- project that at once generated income, provided potable water, and addressed the serious deforestation in the area. Unfortunately, the nursery burned down in late 2004 in an out of control bushfire set by irresponsible children. Since then, the nursery’s well has fallen in, leaving many families without access to potable water. The goal of this project is to rehabilitate the nursery and to reconstruct the well in order to increase economic activity and availability of water in the village.
