Info about the National Park Central Balkan Wolf Signs Collection and Analysis

This proposal requests $8,900 in Partnership support to outline and initiate a large scale-program for studying and monitoring the wolf populations of The Central Balkan Park. This phase, of a multi-part project, will determine absolute wolf abundance in the park. This effort is part of a complete strategy for population studies and monitoring that is necessary to establish a scientifically based policy for predators in the Central Balkan National Park, as well as other areas of Bulgaria. Equally important is educating the public about the necessity for research and the value of wolves in the mountain ecosystem in Bulgaria. The Park fauna expert, district rangers and Peace Corps ecologists, biologists and personnel from the Balkani Wildlife Society will contribute efforts for the project. Teams will be formed to survey different regions simultaneously over the course of one-year.
