Info about the Kpele-Akata Women's Development Project
The Union for the Empowerment of Women (UAPF) is an non-political and not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO). UAPF's mission is to contribute to the integration of women into the development process in Togo. The women in Kpele-Akata see the need for a grassroots training and awareness campaign. Issue which will be addressed include the importance of girls' education, women's health issues, HIV/AIDS and women's issues and rights. In order to assure the sustainability of the program, UAPF will also teach income-generating activities for women. In preparation for this program, two UAPF members have been selected to attend a nation-wide training program on Women's issues. In February all members of UAPF will atttend the NGO's program on women's issues. Local funding for the UAPF activities is provided through membership fees and monthly contributionsfromf members. Local authorities and associations are also being approached for financial assistance by the NGO. The campaign being financed through this project is focused on the canton villages in Kpele-Akata. Funds will help financet the training of local committe members in facilitation techniques and women's issues,in order to support the outreach program being initiated.
