A Senior High School is situated in a rural, poverty-stricken village in Northern Ghana. As a result of its location, only few students get enrolled into the school. They usually get enrolled after all efforts to gain admission in other schools have failed.
While in school, students need much time to focus on their studies and get extra help from their teachers. However, the availability of a functional kitchen is a requirement the Ghana Education Service considers before granting a school a boarding status. Most students and their families prefer schools with boarding facilities.
After the successful completion of this project, students will not have to worry about where their next meal will come from or ‘waste’ time preparing it. And with the eventual attainment of a boarding status, the students will reside in the school, eliminating difficult and tiring travels to and from school every day. A better environment can then be established for more active student-teacher interactions that extend beyond school hours. Additionally, government funding to the school will increase and these funds could be develop the school. As a result, student enrollment figures will eventually increase.
