Info about the Equipment for Health Education

Each year, malaria greatly affects every family in a village in Southern Burkina, with hundreds of cases annually. Be it through sickness or the death of a loved one, everyone is touched by this illness. This project seeks to expand the resources of the local health committee and theater troupe by providing technical equipment including a generator, CD player, TV, and DVD player that will enable them to do 30 theater performances in order to better educate the community and its surrounding villages on malaria and AIDS. The community groups will be trained on proper use of the equipment in order to maintain upkeep, animation techniques in order to reach out to audiences, and how to effectively run a video club in order to generate income and sustain the project beyond the performances.

The two groups involved in this project are extremely motivated and want to better the health of their community. “Health before everything” is their favorite motto. To carry out this project, the well-established theater troupe has agreed to perform at a greatly reduced rate and to buy their own meals on performance days. The two groups will also purchase some equipment themselves by making a request through the district and by using previous performance profits.

By carrying out this project, not only will the two community groups learn valuable skills, but the community itself will learn vital information in order to improve their behavior and hopefully reduce the number of cases of malaria and AIDS. Knowledge is the key to change.
