The project proposed in this Partnership is the creation of a science laboratory for the school in this El Salvadorian community. After working with the school for a year the science and math teacher approached me with the idea for this project. We talked about the participatory education methods we have been developing with the teachers at the school and how much the students would benefit from the use of microscopes and a small chemistry set, instead of just reading about their use or seeing the occasional picture of one in a text book. With the implementation of a science laboratory we will be encouraging even more participation from the students at school and improving the school's resources for teaching.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The project, once completed, will pay for the purchase of three microscopes, and necessary tools to use them, along with the beginnings of a small chemistry set of beakers, bottles, test tubes, chemicals, magnifying glasses and thermometers. The school has already allotted space for the laboratory so construction of a room is not necessary and the project will consist solely of the purchasing of materials. The training of the teachers will be funded by the community. The community will also be contributing the purchase of tables and shelves for the keeping of the equipment purchased, and the trips to purchase and retrieve the materials.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The laboratory will be utilized mainly by the upper grade levels (5th-9th) but obviously as the children pass through the grade levels they will come into use of it. The school is located on top of a mountain a good hour and a half from the nearest high school where only select few students are able to attend. The creation of a laboratory on top of the mountain, at the fingertips of the students, will create a huge difference in the education of so many students in the village now and for generations to come. It will open the door for students who learn through participatory and kinesthetic methods instead of the current oral method, thereby inspiring the hard to inspire. I see so many bright students at my school who don't receive high marks because they are bored by the teaching methods currently in use by the Ministry of Education. Throughout my service I have been helping the teachers to explore new teaching methods and I know that this laboratory will make a huge difference.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
