The Environmental Mural and Education Project combines a number of activities to raise awareness about the environment, as well as to help manage the solid waste problem that is prevalent in the area. The first step in this process is education. Beneficiaries will participate in environmental lectures aimed at establishing the connection that exists between our personal behaviors and environmental degradation. In conjunction with the lectures, the students will paint murals of multiple themes, including The Costal Ecosystem, the Three R's, and Effects of Deforestation. The murals will be painted in public areas, including schools, local sport venues, and community centers, educating and exposing the community to the themes which they depict.
A secondary art project will ensue, with the purchase and painting of trashcans which will be placed in areas greatly affected by the litter problem. The community is directly contributing to this project with discounts for supplies, and in some cases donations of paints or other necessary items. Also, they are contributing to this project by providing labor in the mural and trashcan painting. This proposal is directed to those interested in donating the means by which the community can purchase art supplies such as paint, brushes, wood for signs and new trashcans.
