Kyrgyzstan is a country at a crossroads that faces many challenging issues including trash disposal. This project deals with that issue and was initiated by a progressive grassroots health organization.<br />
<br />
The major goal of the project is to create a clean village. Other secondary goals include beginning environmental education in the community, using common ground to bring together various sectors of the village, creating jobs, increasing business and cash flow and, finally, creating a sense of village pride among the people.<br />
<br />
The community wants to tackle this issue with a village wide clean-up month. Local school children and adults will be involved. They will be posted among three major roads and in various other sites including the day care center and school, where they will be responsible for clearing the areas of trash. Trash will be loaded onto tractors and then deposited into three large trash cans. It will then be sorted into recyclable products and taken to the city to be sold. This money will flow back into the village making for a sustainable project and impacting many beneficiaries. Also a village clean-up service will be utilized to provide long-term trash collection services, providing further sustainability.<br />
