In order to improve the language skills of students and teachers at the Nikola Vaptsarov School, teachers and other staff members have come together to propose the creation of an English Resource Library. With Partnership funding, a designated room in the school will be remodeled and opened as the first such library of its kind in the school. The proposed resource library will contain English literature, educational and instructional materials, and a networked computer for the 800 students and 65 teachers to use for English language study. The library will be open during the school year and for several hours each week during the summer. It is planned that six months after the library's opening, 50% of Nikola Vaptsarov English students will have visited the Resource Library for educational purposes, checked out a literature book, or used the various computer programs for language study or internet research. One year following the opening of the center, it is expected that 25% of secondary students will have used their English language skills to participate in English language contests, camps, or clubs or to continue their language study at the university level. Partnership funds are needed to purchase supplies, furniture, and library resources. The community is providing the room as well as the computer and printer.
