Info about the English Language Teaching Center
The agricultural college I work at is a 3 year technical school. Students study bookkeeping, finance, land registry, electronics, agriculture and veterinary medicine. English is required during their first two years. Most students come to the college with very limited English skills. The English department consists of three teachers. They share two grammar textbooks that I gave them. Before that they were sharing one tattered 1985 text book left over from the Soviet era. The students have no books. We want to purchase a TV, DVD player, computer and printer to equip the new English Language Learning Center at the agricultural college. The English department needs these items so they can develop the language skills of their students. The school will donate the room, the utilities, maintenance and safety and security costs associated with the project. The TV and DVD player will be used to show English language movies and educational programs. Class discussion will follow. In addition, we will procure CDs and DVDs with English lessons. The computer will have Internet access to allow the students to study and research in English and help the teachers prepare lesson plans using the latest teaching methods. The printer will allow the teachers to print lessons ahead of time instead of having to write everything on the board.
