Info about the El Carmen Library

El Carmen is a small village located in the region of Chiquitania in the department of Santa Cruz, Eastern Bolivia. There are approximately 66 families living in this village. The economy is based on subsistence farming, usually corn, rice, bananas and yucca. In discussions with the community they identified the most pressing need was the capacity to expand knowledge. El Carmen's school has 165 students 1-11th grade. There is one qualified teacher at the school with the rest holding high school degrees. Generally, resources are extremely limited. Therefore, the community of El Carmen is requesting Partnership assistance in establishing a library. The library will also serve as a community center. The community is planning on refurbishing an old school building. They need assistance to purchasing construction and educational material to establish the library.
