Future Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization in Bulgaria. Through numerous initiatives over the past 11 years, Future Foundation has worked to improve the standard of living in the local Roma community by increasing participation in education and integration. In 2006, Future Foundation had the opportunity to create an education center for children and parents in the local Roma neighborhood. This center is often used to hold sessions about various social problems in the community, such as sexual and women’s health, HIV/AIDS, human trafficking, narcotic use, teenage marriage and pregnancy, and human rights within the workplace. The center is also used for meetings with parents and teachers, a women’s group, and regional initiative groups interested in starting similar work in their communities.
Currently the educational center is in need of some repairs. This project will predominantly aid in the remodeling of the bathroom area and the roof. The lack of bathroom facilities greatly hinders the amount of time people can spend in the center, and if the existing problems are not corrected, they will grow into larger, less-fixable problems.
Future Foundation will utilize active community members in both the planning and implementation phases of the project. Community members have already helped with the planning of the project and will continue to be involved, as they are aware of how important the educational center is for the increased growth and development of the area.
