Member of the Omnibus group which trained in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Did not receive assignment until arrival in Managua. Stayed in hotel for first 2 months because of lack of available and suitable housing due to December 1973 earthquake. Began assignment with the Banco Nacional de Nicaragua providing technical assistance to their small business clients as a condition of receiving loans to re-establish their post-earthquake enterprises. However, quickly became disillusioned with job once it was evident that client interest in technical assistance was inversely related to loan approval status. Peace Corps Director was going to Brazil for regional conference of Peace Corps staff and I provided him my resume to shop around. Received offers from Guatemala, Colombia, and Ecuador. Transferred to Ecuador, changed focus, and helped establish and sustain the Federacion de Campesinos de Tungurahua. After three years in the Peace Corps, agricultural economics became the logical pursuit after leaving Peace Corps and completed a Master's at Univ. of Kentucky in 1979. After grad school, became a coop development specialist for USDA in Washington, DC. Still with the Federal Government in the same city to this day.
