Crique Sarco is a small rural Mayan community in Belize¿s poorest district. Crique Sarco has a school, primary and secondary serving 72 students. If a student wishes to continue on to High School they must travel five hours, roundtrip, to another community. Improving the educational opportunities for their children has been identified as a critical need by the community. The community is requesting Partnership assistance to realize a software and computer education program in the village school. The goal is to improve the educational opportunities for the students in Crique Sarco. Six desktop computers and a solar electricity array will be purchased and installed in a village building to be used as a computer lab. The software purchased will provide instructional materials, an introduction to computer technology, and individualized instruction not currently available. The community will provide labor, transportation, and teacher training.
