A major challenge facing the youth of Costa Rica is the lack of community services available to them. In Cerbatana there are no after-school activities, no public libraries, no organized events and very few resources for educational purposes. The youth group of Cerbatana was formed in 2003 after several youth attended a series of camps promoting youth leadership. The returned home with the desire to improve their community. The youth group wants to have a safe, free and fun recreation area. This would offer the youth a safe play space that facilitates physical and developmental growth. The youth group has community support for this project with the transportation agency donating some transport of materials, and a local development association donating the land. The youth group of Cerbatana is requesting Peace Corps Partnership to funds to purchase the remaining material for the project.
