Info about the Borino Community Education Center

The Borino Center for Community Education project looks to address the lack of educational opportunities and community space accessible to all regardless of ethnicity, political allegiance, or age in the community of Borino by creating a center for community education and a community meeting space. Borino is a village located in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria near the border with Greece. Like most rural villages in Bulgaria it has yet to feel the benefits from the free market system introduced after the fall of communism. By creating a community center for education this project aims to allow young adults to have access to computer and information technology classes to increase their job skills and productivity. Additionally, the center will serve the local school and preschool which have no multimedia equipment to take advantage of new and modern teaching aides. The new community center will provide students and teachers with the ability to use the center for classes and lessons for free, thus greatly increasing the standard of education offered in Borino as teachers work with the Peace Corps volunteer to incorporate these new opportunities and teaching materials into their classes. Partnership support is requested to assist with the costs of remodeling the facility and procuring the computer and video equipment for the center.
